Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are considering whether to hold former Breitbart Editor and White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to answer their questions about working in President Trump’s administration.
In Thursday’s three-hour hearing before the House Intelligence Committee, Bannon invoked executive privilege when asked questions that were not a part of a pre-approved list. Lawmakers believe Bannon does not have the grounds to do so.
Bannon has been a no-show at previously scheduled hearings and declined to answer questions at hearings he did attend.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) says Bannon was stonewalling the committee on Thursday, saying, “The committee will have to have a vote, to hold him in contempt, it may be necessary to go to the full body, or it may be only a committee vote that is required to initiate litigation, to compel his testimony.”
