Report: 357M Children Living In Conflict Zones Worldwide

According to an aid group, at least 357 million children worldwide live in war zones — marking a 75-percent increase since the 1990s.
Save the Children published its findings Wednesday, showing more minors than ever before reside in conflict areas.
“Our report has found that one in six children around the world are living in conflict — currently more than 350 million children, and unfortunately by many measures, those children are more in danger than they ever have been before,” said Caroline Anning, Advocacy Advisor for Save the Children.
The charity blamed longer-running conflicts in urban areas, and the targeting of hospitals and schools.
More aggressive tactics are also being employed, including the use of barrel bombs and forcing children to be suicide bombers.
With a growing disregard for the rules of war, countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, and South Sudan are the most dangerous places for minors.
The United Nations reports 73,000 children had been killed or maimed since 2005, and numbers have tripled since 2010 with actual numbers expected to be much higher because of difficulty verifying accounts in conflict.

Experts say many survivors are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Meanwhile.the denial of humanitarian access has skyrocketed since 2010 — putting youth at risk of preventative diseases, malnutrition, and further abuse.
The organization is calling on more humanitarian access, and for war criminals to receive justice.
