Kelly writes in a memo released on Thursday, the Trump Administration is processing the accusations against Rob Porter.  Kelly says he takes the claims against Porter very seriously and that domestic violence has no place in civilized society.
Porter resigned this week after his two former wives claimed he physically and emotionally abused them.
Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah also spoke about the issue during Thursday’s press briefing, saying, “This is part of an ongoing investigation. We trust the background check process and the Chief of Staff does not have detailed updates about what may or may not have been alleged. This is a process that involves a thorough investigation, and as I went through the process, it involves looking at not just accusations, but denials.”
Kelly says Porter has the right to defend his reputation since he denies the accusations against him.
President Donald Trump is also pointing out Porter’s right to defend himself.  When reporters asked the President about Porter during an Oval Office visit with a campaign supporter, he said he was surprised by Porter’s resignation.  He then wished Porter well in the future, saying, “He did a very good job when he was in the White House, and we hope he has a wonderful career and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him, but it was very sad when we heard about it and he’s certainly very sad.”
