Australia Wants Exemption From U.S. Steel, Aluminum Tariffs

Australia is denouncing the Trump administration’s tariff proposal as President Trump fights to put the American worker first.
Australia’s trade minister Steven Ciobo voiced concerns Friday over the possible effects of the anticipated tariffs.

He said the tariffs could ignite backlash and lead to a world trade war, which President Trump has welcomed.
The trade minister said has called on the Trump administration to exempt Australia from the new tariffs.
“Only last week the Prime Minister and I had the opportunity to raise this matter directly with the President and other senior members of the Trump administration to indicate that Australia’s view is that there should be an exemption for Australian steel and aluminum products,” stated Minister Ciobo.
The president has not confirmed whether there will be an exemption for Australia as he believes the measures will safe guard American jobs and produce a more favorable trade position for the U.S.
