ICE agents apprehend more than 150 people in northern California despite attempts from the mayor of Oakland to warn illegal aliens of the impending operation.
Federal officials confirmed the arrests Tuesday, following a targeted immigration sweep conducted in the San Francisco Bay area and surrounding communities.
The raids first drew national attention over the weekend when Democrat Mayor Libby Schaaf released a memo detailing the possibility of ICE activity in the area, giving residents up to 24-hours to prepare.
The left-wing public servant then doubled down on her message at a press conference the following day.
“Yesterday I learned information from multiple sources that there is potentially an ICE activity planned in the Bay Area that could be starting as soon as today,” Schaaf announced. “My priority is to keep the community safe.”
The move was quickly denounced by ICE Deputy Director Thomas Homan as “reckless” and likely “politically motivated.”
He said Schaaf’s decision put his officers and other members of the community at risk by alerting criminal aliens to the sweeps.

ICE revealed around half of those taken into custody during this operation had convictions for charges including assault, burglary, and sexual offenses in addition to violating immigration law.
Despite protests from the now sanctuary state, similar sweeps conducted throughout California in fiscal year 2017 netted more than 20,000 illegal immigrants. Of those detained, 81-percent had prior criminal convictions.
However, authorities warns close to 1,000 criminal aliens may remain at large in the Bay area, arguing the mayor’s leaks allowed many to escape detection.
In response, Don Rosenberg — also known as ‘angel dad’ after is son was killed by an illegal immigrant — is calling on the DOJ to pursue obstruction charges against Oakland’s mayor. He says she does not put her citizens first.
“She has her priorities a little screwed up, said Rosenberg. “Her priorities are to the citizens of Oakland and to the legal residents not to criminals, and that’s who she’s protecting.”
His son was fatally struck by an illegal immigrant back in 2010, while riding his motorcycle home from law school in San Francisco.
ICE Deputy Director Homan said the agency will continue to target and step-up enforcement against “public safety threats” to better protect the lives of American citizens.
