Politicians, Family And Friends Honor Former First Lady Barbara Bush

The death of Barbara Bush, who was the wife and mother of presidents, is met with sadness across the nation.
Members of the Bush Family and many major political figures are expressing their sadness over the loss of the former First Lady. Following her death Tuesday, many people who formerly occupied and currently live in the White House expressed their condolences to the Bush Family.
President Trump ordered American flags around the world to be lowered to half staff in honor of her memory. First Lady Melania Trump said Bush put her family and country first throughout her life.
Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen said her example and encouragement left a lasting mark on their family.
Bush also made an impact on former first families.
In a statement, the Obama’s said she was a testament to the fact that public service is a noble calling. Former Vice President Joe Biden added she was the picture of resilience, who endured the life-altering loss of her child while never losing her abiding faith in the fundamental importance of serving others.
President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went on to say she showcased grace and grit and was fierce and feisty in supporting the causes she believed in. The nation’s 39th president, Jimmy Carter, and his wife Rosalynn said Bush’s warmth, generosity and keen wit touched the hearts of millions.
Both sides of the aisle in congress also came together to honor her legacy.
In the House of Representatives, Speaker Paul Ryan revered Bush for leading with clarity and character while House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says she will be remembered for her civility and spirit, and most importantly the pride she had in her family.
Barbara Bush holds a revered place in the hearts of generations of Americans. She so loved her family and our country. She led both with clarity and character. To Mrs. Bush’s family, I extend the deepest condolences of the whole House. May she rest in eternal peace.
Tonight is a sad night for America. First Lady Barbara Bush will be remembered for the dignity, civility & spirit she brought to every thing she did. But most of all, everyone who knew Mrs. Bush saw her immense love for & pride in her family.
Bush’s legacy was also felt outside the U.S.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said she was always a friend to Canada and leaves a legacy of dignity, grace, service and devotion to family.

As the nation honored Bush’s legacy, many noted she was not just the matriarch of the political dynasty but its backbone.
Her son, and the nation’s 43rd president, George W. Bush acknowledged his family is sad but said she was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions.
Her other son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, thanked the public for their support and said he was extremely privileged to be raised by the funny, tough and loving woman.

Her husband of over 73 years, President George H.W. Bush, is reportedly heartbroken over the loss. The Bush Family says he held her hand all day and was with her until the very end.
