Putin, Erdogan Strike Investment, Security Deals At Ankara Meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara.
Putin arrived in Turkey’s capital Tuesday to discuss bilateral economic and military cooperation with Turkish President Tayiip Erdogan.
The two leaders gave a formal launch to Russia’s first nuclear project in Turkey — the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

The project is set for completion by the year 2023 and is carried out by Russian company Rosatom, which is known for its role in the controversial Uranium One deal in the U.S.
Putin also reaffirmed the sales of advanced missile defense systems to Turkey.
“In the military sphere our priority is to fulfill a contract to supply Turkey with S-400 Triumph missile systems,” said President Putin. “We expect the upcoming meeting of a targeted government-level commission to thoroughly discuss future supplies of Russia’s modern military production.”
This comes amid tensions between Turkey and the U.S.-led coalition in Syria as well as Erdogan’s accusations of terrorism against Israel.
Security experts point out the bilateral agreements are deepening the rift between NATO member state Turkey and the rest of the alliance.
