U.S. President Donald Trump has given his “blessing” for North and South Korea to discuss the end of the Korean War amid a diplomatic push to end the North Korean nuclear standoff. On Thursday the U.S. Disarmament Ambassador Robert Wood reiterated the nation’s commitment to completely denuclearize North Korea.
The remarks come ahead of the annual Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty conference in Geneva next week.
Wood added the U.S. wants to enforce sanctions and prevent the country from accessing funds to further its nuclear and missile program.
He went on to say, President Trump will not take a traditional approach on the issue, saying his abilities will be “very important.”

“Like for anything else, it takes two to tango, and the North has to be willing to take steps that the North itself has said in the past it was willing to take. And so, the president is a sharp, sharp deal-maker. People should not underestimate him. So, we’ll have to see what happens. These are high-stakes discussions, assuming they take place.” -Robert Wood, ambassador of council on disarmament
This week President Trump warned, he would pull out of the meeting with leader Kim Jong Un, if it is not “fruitful.”
