Family, Friends Swarm Josh Holt In Utah After His Release From Venezuela

A flood of family and friends greeted an American returning to the U.S. after spending two-years in a Venezuelan prison.
Josh Holt, his wife Thamara, and her daughter touched down in Salt Lake City Monday night after the U.S. government finally negotiated their release.
“I just want you to thank every single person that prayed for us, that was here for us,” said Holt.
His grandmother wrapped him in an American flag that had been draped over his grandfather’s coffin, which was the last time the entire family was together.

Before the Mormon missionary headed home to Utah, he also received medical treatment in Washington, D.C. and met with President Trump.
“You were a tough one, I have to tell you, that was a tough situation,” the president told Holt.
His return back to the U.S follows an uprising at a detention center in Caracas earlier this month over the brutal beating of a political prisoner.
Many activists are being held without trials in the struggling country, and Holt was the only one released in the aftermath of the prison riot.
Holt traveled to Venezuela in 2016 to marry Thamara, but shortly after the wedding they were arrested and accused of possessing weapons.
Holt thanked the many lawmakers who pleaded for his release, including Senators Orrin Hatch and Bob Corker.
His release was achieved amid a diplomatic crisis over president Nicolas Maduro’s sham reelection.
Meanwhile, President Trump said he is continuing to work to free more U.S. citizens that are being held unjustly around the world.
