U.S. Navy Conducts Sorties Against ISIS

The Navy begins sorties against the Islamic State in Syria, continuing the effort to eradicate the terrorist threat in the region and abroad.
According to reports, an American strike force is being led by the aircraft carrier — The U.S.S. Harry Truman — which joined the Sixth Fleet last month.

The U.S. Navy said it’s conducting sorties, which are attacks made by forces coming out from a defensive position that began Thursday, May 3.
Officials went on the say it was a scheduled deployment conducted to aid NATO allies and protect U.S. interests in the region.
“That operation demonstrates our commitment to not only the missions the American people assigned to us, but also our resolve to our partners and allies in the region and our continuing fight to eliminate ISIS,” stated Capt. Nicholas Dienna, U.S. Navy Commanding Officer.
The carrier is accompanied by the cruiser — The U.S.S. Normandy — as well as several destroyers.
This comes almost a month after the U.S., U.K. and France conducted airstrikes against Syria in response to a suspected chemical attack.
“Certainly there is some emotional content there given the situation, but fundamentally we go through a very long work up syllabus of about 18 months before we ever deploy, trained to all mission areas, so really we are doing the exact mission that we are trained for no matter who the enemy is, or who the target, or wherever it happens to be,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Comm. Michael Miller pilot.
The U.S.S. Truman can carry 90 aircraft, and it currently has around 60 on board.
