Authorities Search For ‘D.C.-Area Hotel Rapist’ After Release Of DNA Evidence

Police in the D.C. area are searching for a suspect believed to be responsible for raping multiple women over a seven-year span.
On Tuesday, authorities reported new DNA evidence has linked at least six attacks to the man known as the ‘D.C. area hotel rapist.’
Investigators say the suspect assaulted the victims between 1998 and 2006 by entering hotel rooms, and attacking housekeepers while they worked.
This is the first time the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. has indicted a “John Doe” DNA profile.
“D.C. currently has a 15-year statute of limitations for first degree sexual abuse, but D.C. law allows us to indict an unknown offender under the pseudonym of John Doe,” explaine D.C. attorney Jessie Liu. “A John Doe indictment like this one tolls the statute of limitations and will allow us to prosecute the assailant when the case is finally resolved.”
The suspect is described as an African American male, who is in his late 30s or 40s and is between five-foot-seven to five-foot-10 inches tall.
Several police departments and the FBI and are offering a $45,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

The man has not yet been identified, but law enforcement agencies are hoping to break the case by making their investigation public. The FBI and multiple Washington-area police departments announced Tuesday that a single man is suspected of committing at least six sexual assaults over a several year period and could be responsible for many more.
