The House fails to pass on the Goodlatte immigration bill.
The legislation failed in a 193-231 vote Thursday, which shoots down the bill the president said he would support.
All Democrats and 41 Republicans voted no on the legislation.
House leadership announced the compromise bill vote would be postponed until at least next week, so members can have a chance to review it.
The compromise bill is considered more moderate, while the Goodlatte legislation is considered much more conservative.
