A federal judge is now considering imposing tougher rules on the government to speed up the process of reuniting migrant children with their parents, after they were separated at the border.
A federal judge will decide if protocols are needed to ensure the government meets the July 26 deadline to reunite roughly two thousand migrant children with their parents.
The impending ruling comes after the government missed a Tuesday deadline to reunite an initial group of children, under the age of five, with their parents.
The DHS argued the need for DNA testing and criminal background checks on parents made it difficult to meet the deadline.
