President Trump nominates Brett Kavanaugh to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court.
The announcement was made from the East Room of the White House Monday, a decision that will shape the direction of the court for decades.
The 53-year-old Yale graduate is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit.
He previously served in both Bush administrations and worked on Independent Counsel Ken Starr’s investigation of President Bill Clinton.
If confirmed, Kavanaugh would replace a frequent swing-vote on the bench, who often sided with liberals on issues such as affirmative action LGBT and abortion rights.
Kavanaugh will now undergo the confirmation process.
He’ll go through hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, before advancing to the full Senate for a floor vote.
