President Trump adds a new member to his cabinet, as Robert Wilkie is sworn in as secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Monday’s ceremony in the oval office comes after Wilkie was confirmed by the senate in an 86-9 vote last week.
He is replacing David Shulkin who was ousted from the department over allegations of ethical misconduct.
Wilkie says he is humbled by his selection.
“Mr. President I am humbled by your confidence, said Wilkie. I am humbled by the prospect of serving those who have borne the battle. Those American men and women who have sacrificed so much. I thank you and I look forward to this great adventure and I thank you for your courtesy.”
Wilkie will now manage nearly 400 thousand full time employees within the department which has been marred in controversy since 2014.
Wilkie is planning to reassign members of VA leadership as one of his first moves in his new position, according to reports.
