House Dems Launch Hurricane Response Probe

House Democrats are relaunching their investigation into the Trump administration’s hurricane response two-years ago.
On Monday, Oversight Committee chair Elijah Cummings sent a letter to the White House, the Department of Health and Human Services, and FEMA requesting documents. The panel wants to learn more about the immediate aftermath in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands after Hurricane Maria and Hurricane  Irma hit.

Democrats renewed their push after the White House failed to cooperate with a past request. They have criticized the administration’s handling of recovery efforts on the U.S. territories. However, President Trump has repeatedly defended his record:
“I’ve taken better care of Puerto Rico than any man ever. We have $91 billion going to Puerto Rico, we have $29 billion to Texas, and $12 billion to Florida for the hurricanes. Puerto Rico has been taken care of better by Donald Trump than by any living human being.”
House Democrats are giving the Trump administration until May 20th to turn over all requested information. In the meantime, Congress is working to pass stalled legislation that would send billions in disaster relief funds to Puerto Rico and other parts of the U.S.
