VP Pence Visits Norfolk Naval Station, Gives Speech To Sailors

The crew of the USS Harry S. Truman recently received a special visit from Vice President Mike Pence. He flew into Norfolk Naval Station on Tuesday morning.
After a tour of the ship, Pence addressed the officers and crew members. He acknowledged their families for supporting the ships thousands of recent missions. He also promoted President Trump’s recent budget proposal of $750 billion for the U.S. military.
“President Trump has taken decisive action to rebuild our military and we are restoring the arsenal of democracy,” stated Pence.
The budget includes money for building even more ships.
“The President’s budget would give the United States Navy the resources to buy 12 new battle force ships, will fund 55 ships over the future years’ defense program, and will bring the United States Navy to 355 battle force ships by 2034,” announced the vice president.
He went on to praise the sailors for all their accomplishments. This included fighting, what he called, radical Islamic terrorism as well as their response during natural disasters.

The vice president said there was one thing the carrier did that made history.
“Last year, this ship became the first American carrier to operate within the Arctic Circle in more than two decades — job well done!” he touted.
Pence then squashed any reports the USS Harry S. Truman will be decommissioned early in the next five-years as was suggested during a congressional hearing back in March.
The vice president said he had a message for the crew directly from the president:
“We are keeping the best carrier in the world in the fight. We are not retiring the Truman.”
Pence’s visit also included a roundtable meeting with local business about the USMCA.
