Russian President Putin Disliked Greta Thunberg’s UN Speech

Russian President Vladimir Putin has joined in with other world leaders in denouncing climate activist Greta Thunberg’s recent speech at the United Nations.
In an interview Wednesday, Putin called the 16-year-old’s work unrealistic and suggested that she doesn’t fully understand how the world works. He said while it’s fine for children to support environmental issues, adults should not “co-opt” children as a part of their rhetoric.

“I may disappoint you, but I do not share everyone’s enthusiasm about Greta Thunberg’s speech. You know, the fact that young people, teenagers, pay attention to the acute problems of the modern world, including ecology — that is right and very good. We need to support them, but when somebody uses children and teenagers in their own interests, it deserves only to be condemned.”

President Trump has also spoken out against Thunberg, tweeting about her consistently negative attitude.
Putin’s comments follow Thunberg’s controversial speech about her so-called “stolen childhood” at the United Nations last month.
